What are Alkylglycerols

Alkylglycerols are a group of compounds that are integral in stimulating the body’s immune system. They are found in significant amounts in human breast milk, 10 times more in fact than in cows milk and they are one of the mechanisms by which immunity is transferred from mother to baby. They are also found in the liver, spleen and bone marrow, all of which play a role in immune defence. Alkylglycerols are active substances that give breast-fed babies crucial protection until their own immunity is fully developed. Shark liver oil is one of the richest sources of Alkylglycerols.

The Research.

Shark liver oil was used traditionally by Scandinavian fisherman for the topical healing of wounds and taken orally for the treatment and prevention of illness and infections.

In 1952 Dr. Astrid Brohult began experimenting with extracts isolated from calf marrow on children with leukaemia. He discovered that they stimulated the production of white blood cells. These compounds were later identified as Alkylglycerols. Subsequent research discovered that shark liver oil was the superior source of Alkylglycerols. Ecomer™ was developed as a result of this research.

Clinical Findings to Date:

  • Ecomer™ has immune stimulating properties.
  • Enhances the production of leucocytes, erythrocytes and thrombocytes.
  • Promotion of healthy cells after radiotherapy.
  • Reduction of drop in leucocytes usually seen in radiotherapy and chemotherapy.
  • Powerful anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-fungal properties.
  • Speeds up slow wound healing
  • Tumour inhibiting activity
  • Eliminates heavy metal, toxins and pesticides from the body.
  • Powerful anti-oxidant which protects cell membranes from oxidative stress.

About Sharks.

Sharks have been around for over 400 million years and are known to have incredible immunity. Some species live to be over 100 years old and practically all species have tremendous resistance to infections and the growth of tumours. In 25 years researching over 25,000 sharks the Smithsonian Institute found only one malignant tumour in a shark.

Shark cartilage?

For many years it was thought that the sharks immunity was due to its cartilage. However since Dr. Astrid Brohult began his research into Alkylglycerols we discovered that it was the liver oil and not the cartilage which contained the protective components. It was also discovered that the oil from deep cold water species was particularly rich in Alkylglycerols.

Alkylglycerols and their Benefits!

  • Alkylglycerols, as a natural supplement have been documented to aid in improving the body’s immune defence system.
  • They offer great scope for improving conditions in which impaired immunity is an issue, such as cancer and AIDS.
  • They are proven to mitigate the side effects of chemotherapy and radiotherapy, such as the drop in white blood cells so commonly seen.
  • Because they stimulate the immune response, Alkylglycerols can minimise colds, flu and acute infections, enhance wound healing, and improve inflammatory conditions such as asthma, psoriasis and arthritis
  • Alkylglycerols bind to heavy metals, toxins and pesticides eliminating them through excretion. As such they are a good anti-dote to mercury amalgam fillings.
  • Recent research by the French Army showed that Ecomer™ maintains phospholipid fluidity under stressful conditions. As such it is a powerful cellular anti-oxidant shown to be 100 times more potent than Vitamin E.

The process.

Ecomer™ is made by a patented process. This involves a triple molecular distillation process which removes all impurities and contaminants and leaves a pure oil, highly bioavailable and rich in Alkylglycerols.

Conservation.

Ecomer™ is made from shark livers which are a by-product of deep-sea fisheries. The populations involved in the manufacture of this product are not endangered and Gaia Biotechnology Ltd. work with organisations such as WWF and the Marine Stewardship council to ensure all our products are sustainable.
