What are nutricosmetics?
The term nutricosmetic is a newly coined word to describe a family of natural substances which provide specific nutrients to the body which can have a beneficial effect on how we look and feel. The fundamental principal is that our health and beauty are intrinsically linked, which of course they are.
How is it made?
From our shellfish facilities on the West coast we harvest our raw materials at times of the year when the levels of free amino acids and trace elements are highest in the shellfish. They are then transported to our facility in Co. Wicklow where they are processed using our patented process to create a dried extract with very high concentrations of free amino acids, peptides, anti oxidants proteins, phospholipids( fish oils EPA and DHA ) and trace elements.
How does it work?
DERMARINE™ works in 3 ways:
1. Clinical trials on human volunteers have shown that the bioactive compounds in DERMARINE™ have a direct effect on the anti-oxidant capacity of blood serum. This effect was seen very quickly. Free radicals in the blood were reduced by 90% within 8 days of starting the treatment. This effect was due partly to the direct anti-oxidant effect of certain bio actives in DERMARINE™ and also in part due to the fact that the product increased the production of Glutathione in the body. Glutathione is a major anti oxidant in the body and it protects all cells from oxidative damage, the major cause of premature aging.
2. DERMARINE™ contains high levels of free amino acids. Free amino acids are very useful as they do not need to be digested and they enter the blood stream directly and go to where the body needs them most..Three of these, glutamic acid, glycine and cysteine are the building blocks for collagen. Free cysteine is normally toxic to the body and having a non-toxic source of bio available cysteine is very advantageous for collagen production in the body. The rest of the free amino acids in DERMARINE™ are involved in the manufacture of enzymes, anti-oxidants and structural proteins such as keratin.
3. DERMARINE™ contains very high levels of trace elements. These include zinc, copper, manganese and selenium. These trace elements are involved in over 300 enzyme reactions in the body and recent research shows that they are very important in DNA repair and synthesis. DNA cannot replicate in the absence of zinc, so cells cannot divide if these trace elements are in short supply. The World Health Organisation estimates that 80% of Western Peoples are mildly zinc deficient. DERMARINE™ has very balanced levels of zinc, copper and manganese to ensure such deficiencies do not occur. More importantly, because these trace elements come naturally from an animal source, they are presented to the body in more balanced relative concentrations than synthetic alternatives. One has to be careful taking zinc as too much or too little is bad for the body and one can become copper deficient if too much zinc is contained. A daily dose of DERMARINE™ contains 3.5mg of zinc which a safe supplemental amount to take.
What are the benefits?
It is becoming increasingly apparent that many chronic human disease states are either caused by or exacerbated by exposure to free radicals. Damage caused by these free radicals has been implicated in aging, cancer, arthritis and other syndromes, which have a significant impact on human morbidity. Three of these amino acids, glycine, glutamic acid and cysteine are the building blocks for collagen.
